For example, one mode, called Road Rage, gives you but a single life, and you have to spend it trying to take away your opponents'. That's assuming, however, that your car can respawn. The same goes for you it's easy to crash out, but it's not too hard to recover after your car respawns back on the road.
There are only six competitors per race, but knocking one out of commission offers only a temporary respite. Burnout 3's emphasis on all-out aggression makes for some very intense racing. In other words, it's like driving in Europe. In Burnout 3, you're not only looking to trade paint with your opponents - you're looking to run them right off the road. Now, under the guidance of new publisher EA, Burnout 3: Takedown will take that carnage to the next logical level.

it was about surviving to the finish line, pushing your skills to the max to eke that extra bit of boost from a near-collision and then boosting away unscathed. With a special focus on gratuitous crashes and harrowing near-misses, the games were suddenly about more than just getting to the finish line first.
Criterion's Burnout series did something few racing games can do: it brought something new to the genre.
